87001 "Stephenson"
Euston
7 April 2005

The name "Stephenson" was originally applied to 87001 in January 1976 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Stephenson's Stockton and Darlington Railway. In 1977 87001 was renamed "Royal Scot" to mark the Golden Jubilee of the service of that name. Shortly afterwards the name "Stephenson" was transferred to 87101 until it was withdrawn from service in 1999. Then in June 2003 the name was returned to 87001. After it's withdrawal in late 2005, 87001 joined the NRM collection in York where it now bears the name "Stephenson" on one side and "Royal Scot" on the other.
